Real Madrid star Raphael Varane is a transfer target for Chelsea as Thomas Tuchel looks to bolster his squad.
Real Madrid have decided they’re not interested in a swap deal with Chelsea regarding the possible exit of Raphael Varane, it has been claimed. The Blues are determined to beat Manchester United to the player’s signature. But, while that’s the case, a move to Stamford Bridge appears unlikely.
Real Madrid star Varane has won the lot during his time at the Bernabeu, scooping four Champions League titles and three La Liga crowns.
But a move away from the Spanish capital could now be on the cards, with Chelsea and Manchester United both keen on the 28-year-old.
Varane’s contract at Madrid is winding down, with his current deal due to expire next summer.
That means Los Blancos must sell him now to ensure they get a good fee for the player or risk losing him for nothing in 12 months’ time, a situation they’re understandably eager to avoid.
And Defensa Central have claimed Real aren’t interested in a swap deal with Chelsea, instead only wanting a fee in the region of £43million to let their prized asset go.
It’s claimed that Real Madrid chiefs don’t want Timo Werner in exchange, despite Carlo Ancelotti earmarking the Germany international as a potential target.
How Chelsea approach the situation remains to be seen, with history suggesting Roman Abramovich could feel obliged to stump up a big fee for the 28-year-old.
He did, after all, sanction a spending spree 12 months ago that saw the likes of Werner, Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell and Edouard Mendy all sign on the dotted line.
But with Chelsea also setting their sights on a blockbuster deal for Erling Haaland, any move to west London for Varane is currently in limbo.
The report also notes that Manchester United recently suggested a swap deal involving Paul Pogba, whose contract at the club has just 12 months left to run.
But Real only want money as they look to secure the signing of Kylian Mbappe.
